Warren (28)

Lawyered Up – And Fightin’ Back

United States Attorney’s Office, Newark, NJ

INVESTIGATIVE INTERVIEW

US Attorney Emily Saugerties, Prosecuting Counsel

Peter Xiang-Li, Attorney at Law – Representing Warren Township Detective William Heinlein

US Attorney Saugerties:

“Your statement, previously transcribed on the date and time set forth, indicates that in your official capacity as a Detective with the Warren Township Police Department, you were assigned to investigate reports of an animal or animals that were burrowing upward from underground lairs in the Township of Warren and attacking residents.

You state that Township Officials were concerned that these animals were carrying disease that could spread throughout the community.  Indeed, recently, three children from a day-care facility in Warren were infected with a virulent form of Necrotizing Fasciitis that required Morristown Memorial Hospital to initiate lockdown quarantine protocols and notify the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.

The Hospital has just come off quarantine.  The infected children that were taken to Morristown Memorial E/R by Warren Township EMS personnel have died – as have the EMS Personnel and eighteen others battling the outbreak at the hospital.

Within the last two weeks there was another gruesome murder of three children in Warren Township, this time involving their dismemberment and partial consumption by animals or malefactors presently unknown.

You have stated that forty-eight hours ago you attended a Leni Lenape Indian ceremony in the Watchung Reservation with Sargeant Leeds of the New Jersey State Police.  The ostensible purpose of this ceremony was a public relations effort to enlist Native American assistance to capture whatever animal that is supposedly killing Warren residents in “unspeakable” ways.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Sargeant Leeds apparently wandered off – and has not been seen since.  The New Jersey State Police, Park Police and private helicopters are combing the Watchung Reservation, searching for her as we speak.  All of the Leni Lenape Indians attending the ceremony have provided statements that they, too, are surprised at the sudden disappearance of Sargeant Leeds and that at no time was Sargeant Leeds – or you – outside their field of vision.  They are adamant that Sargeant Leeds vanished without a trace during what was an “intense religious experience”.  In a bizarre twist, Sargeant Leed’s clothes were found neatly folded near a large burned-out ceremonial fire pit.  Her New Jersey State Police Badge and service Glock weapon were on top of the clothes pile.

You have stated that you have been involved in an affair with one Else Sommerlund, MD, a medical researcher with NordPharma in Princeton.  That you frequently spent time at her home in Lambertville, NJ.

You admitted to being at her home in Lambertville and watching a computer feed of an apparent attempt by persons in her employ to hunt and kill an animal that apparently emerged from the cellar of a crime scene house in Warren where an old woman was murdered.  The name of the deceased woman was “Shinski”.  You say you might have mentioned to Dr. Sonnerlund a few details about the Shinski murder investigation file on a “confidential” basis – that it was just “pillow talk”.   “Cop bragging” to make yourself look important to her.  You said this was a momentary lapse of judgment.  Parenthetically, the Shinski crime scene house has since burned and has been completely destroyed as result of a gas pipe explosion.  All debris from the fire has been removed to local landfills.

OBJECTION.  Peter Xiang-Li, Attorney for Detective Heinlein:

“The purported video is grainy, indistinct and of poor quality.  There is no provenance or chain of custody for it or verified identity of who recorded it.  The video could very well be an Artificial Intelligence fake.  I move to strike it entirely from this record.  Unless and until you produce a witness to properly vouch for this video, to properly qualify it into evidence – it is inadmissible under the US Federal Rules of Evidence and Criminal Procedure and, therefore, cannot be something used as a basis to cross-examine my client.  Accordingly, I OBJECT to said video.

Additionally, there has been no intimation that my client is in any way responsible for Sargeant Leeds going missing after the Leni Lenape religious ceremony.   My client has stated in the strongest possible terms that he has no knowledge about the present whereabouts of Sargeant Leeds or her motivations for disappearing.  The Leni Lenape Indians attending the religious ceremony testified in support of my client’s factual recollection.  I therefore OBJECT to any reference to what is an ongoing investigation by New Jersey State Police authorities into the disappearance of one of their own officers.”

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“Your Objections are noted for the Record.  They can be ruled on by a US Magistrate at the proper time if the Office of the US Attorney for New Jersey decides to proceed with this matter.

Moving forward.  Detective Heinlein.  Your statement indicates that when you observed the video objected to by your Lawyer, you found it “boring” and uttered words to the effect “What’s keeping him – isn’t he hungry tonight?”

What was the “HIM” you were referring to – and what was the “HUNGRY” reference to?

OBJECTION.  Peter Xiang-Li, Attorney for Detective Heinlein:

“Your question assumes facts NOT in the record or previously testified to by my client.  It suggests that my client knew that this creature – whatever it was – was intended to be filmed while eating something.  I therefore OBJECT.”

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“Note my previous comments about a Magistrate Ruling on your OBJECTIONS at a later time.  These are your client’s words – not mine.  If he used these words, he opened the door to my cross-examining him about them.  Your OBJECTION is duly noted.

Detective Heinlein was there any food being presented to this animal for it to eat – or lure it out of its lair?

HEINLEIN:

“I assumed Dr. Summerlund and her associates were trying to get the thing out into the open – and that they were luring it with food”.

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“Was the food Dr. Sommerlund and her associates using to entice the animal out into the open to eat a human being?”

OBJECTION.  Peter Xiang-Li, Attorney for Detective Heinlein:

US Attorney Saugerties – are you suggesting that my client, A New Jersey Law Enforcement Officer, conspired with Dr. Sommerlund – and others not yet identified – to record a SNUFF Film?

Is that what this is all about?  A Criminal Conspiracy to Record Live Snuff Films?  Sexual Deviancy?  Facilitating Interstate Internet Trafficking in Murder Pornography?

If that is the intention of your question, I am Advising Detective Heinlein NOT to answer the question as it violates his right against self-incrimination under the Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution.  Detective, DO NOT answer this question.  My client is Pleading the Fifth.”

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“Your objection is noted – as is your client’s refusal to answer the question.  Moving along, Detective Heinlein, let us view another segment of the video about which we are asking you questions.  Frames 101 through 127 depict a man chained to a chair, screaming.  My question is this:  do you know who he is and what he is screaming about?”

HEINLEIN:

“I don’t know who he is or what he’s doing there.  I don’t know where “there” is.  I don’t know who filmed it or when.  It could’ve been filmed ten years ago – on the lot of Paramount Pictures in California or a rented motel in Secaucus, New Jersey.  Where is the Chain of Custody or Provenance for this alleged recorded evidence?   Who cooked it up?  It could be a movie set, a video game or AI.  It’s all grainy and fragmented.  I don’t see what it has to do with me.  I’m not in it.  This all smells like smoke and mirrors to railroad a local cop into taking a fall – getting me to eat blame for something I didn’t do.  Handing the Federal three-letter agency boys a get-out-of-jail-free card at my expense.

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“Do you know who introduced a De-pixilation program into the video feed you were just commenting on – computer software that intentionally blurs out the clarity of digital records within a pre-determined time window limited to hours following the initial recording thereof?

It’s a computer software that prevents future use of video recordings never meant to create a history – only prove the happening of crimes to the principals that bankrolled them so payments can be released.  It’s a method to verify criminals did what they agreed to do.   In fact, the de-pixilation continues, and the images disintegrate completely over compressed time, rendering the recording completely useless.  The actors never have to meet.  It’s all over the Internet.

Criminals who want to prove they followed orders and get paid for their services use this.  It corrupts and erodes evidence in real time.  It is engineered to frustrate criminal prosecutions – and is a dead giveaway of the original nefarious intent of whomever planned what was to be filmed.”

HEINLEIN:

“I don’t know anything for certain about that footage.  It looks like something a high-school kid made in his mommy’s basement.  It’s disgusting.  And I find it highly suspect that you won’t share how it came into your possession.  Like I said – looks like this is part of some operation to frame a cop for something the Federal Government spooks don’t want to fess’ up to.  What’s next – you gonna’ try to pin that missing Israeli on me too, right?

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“We have now confirmed, Detective Heinlein, that Dr. Ilse Sommerlund is a suspected Russian spy – sent to NordPharma to ingratiate herself to you through a “Honey Pot” snare and get access to your official Warren Township Police Records.  Records that she hoped would lead her to capture this underground animal terrorizing Warren Township Residents and infecting them with horrific and aberrant bacterial anomalies and cellular mutations.  Biological data from such a research subject could then be weaponized by Russia – or sold to the highest international bidder.”

HEINLEIN:

“I spent many a drunken night at Dr. Sommerlund’s house in Lambertville.  Her food, scotch whisky and wine were top shelf.  Yeah – I guess I was seduced.  She had money.  She was good in bed.  I even vacationed with her recently in Sweden.  I was a chump.  But I never helped her murder innocent people or steal United States’ secrets for Russia.”

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

Detective Heinlein – one further question.  Do you have any idea how the blood of a foreign national – an Israeli – got on your living room carpet at your ranch house on Vosseller Avenue on the Warren – Martinsville city line?”

HEINLEIN:  “I was spending a few weeks with Ilse Sonnerlund at her Lambertville address.  My police vehicle was at the Warren Municipal Garage for routine maintenance, so Ilse drove me home to check my mail and get some clothes.   She stopped in my driveway – where it curves by my front door and living room bow window.  I got out of her car and walked to my front door.  I turned the doorknob – and it wasn’t locked.  I gestured to Ilse to stay put and cautiously entered the house.  The minute I stepped inside I saw that my living room furniture was pushed away from the front window and there was a sickening sweetish cologne smell hanging in the air.

Suddenly, some greasy-looking guy jumps out and slams me on the side of my head with a gun – a service Beretta, I think – and I go down.  Before I hit the floor, I hear a gunshot and glass shattering.  That’s all I remember.

I’m assuming Ilse got out of her car, saw what was happening through the front bow window and shot the guy.  She always had a CZ-75 nine-millimeter handgun on her.  She had a concealed-carry license.  I never asked her why.  I figured she was rich, had hot-shit connections from NordPharma and wanted to feel safe.  Her father was CEO.

The blood on the carpet was from the guy who attacked me.  He was tossing my house for some reason.  By the time I got back to the house a few days later, it was repaired.  I initially thought Ilse had taken care of it for me – but it was actually my neighbor Walt Risoldi who’d arranged it.  He looks after things for me when I’m not there.  Walt thought animals were going to get in.  Washington Valley Glass repair in Bridgewater did the work.  $625.00 for a replacement Pela double-glass pane – Walt has the receipt.”

US Attorney Emily Saugerties:

“Thank you, Detective.  That will be all – for now”.

Peter Xiang-Li, Attorney for Detective Heinlein:

“I would respectfully ask that if this untenable video footage and an extremely questionable blood residue is the best evidence you have against my client, that you close your file immediately.  Detective Heinlein may have been guilty of poor judgement in his selection of sexual liaison partners – but you got no evidence of espionage or other Federal crime.  And, in light of the de-pixelization of the video itself – any evidence against my client is not only illusory but speculative in the extreme.  It is self-destructing, blurry nonsense at this point.  Absolutely inadmissible in any court of law as evidence of any crime – let alone Espionage, Conspiracy to Commit Espionage, Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder – or anything else!

Detective Heinlein is a law enforcement officer of impeccable reputation and service.  These Federal clouds presently hanging over his head are causing him severe personal strain and professional embarrassment.  Again, I ask that you discontinue what is nothing more than a witch-hunt.  My client has been more than cooperative.  You have presented nothing to us that even approaches the legal standard of Probable Cause to charge my client with any criminal violation whatsoever.  My client has been through enough.  We ask that you do the right thing.”
