In Winter Belgrade, Serbia is cold. Especially in the mountainous regions on the outskirts of the city – like Dobanovci. There, in a heavily forested valley hollow, is NordPharma Laboratories main Genomic Research facility in Europe. Kopicj Road – a long, winding two-lane thoroughfare – connects the main gate of NordPharma with the highway leading to Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BNT), the primary commercial and civilian airport for all of Belgrade and its surrounding environs.
NordPharma is almost the exclusive employer of scientists holding doctorates in Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Bacterial Antibiotics and RNA Cytology in Serbia. Naturally, Graduate Students interested in these specialties flock to NordPharma in Dobanovci in Belgrade to get hands-on experience in the cutting-edge science that they seek to master: CRISPR.
The human Genome is made of DNA. CRISPR is the scientific tool that allows scientists to cut, paste and alter it. It uses RNA to break the DNA “Double Helix” and splice inside a new sequence of genetic material – making a new cell. New life.
NordPharma Laboratories in Belgrade, Serbia is where scientists are playing God in this, the year of our Lord, 2026. It is a modern incarnation of Baron Frankenstein’s lair, destined to suffer a similar fate.

“As you can see from our Helicopter vantage here as we fly over Kopicj Road, the access to Belgrade’s biggest employer, NordPharma, is choked with Serbian Army and Emergency response vehicles with their lights blazing following the violent slaughter of twenty-seven senior research personnel inside the building’s main laboratory.
The victims – some of the most prestigious names in the European scientific pantheon of experts in the field of CRISPR technology – were murdered in this world-class RNA Genomic splicing facility responsible for the most promising immunotherapy Cancer treatments available in modern medicine today. NordPharma is at the cutting edge of efforts to splice the human genome in experiments to push the boundaries of medicine for human survival – and it is at this location that their extremely top-secret and ofttimes unimaginable success stories are written.
Discovered by Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna in 2012, the CRISPR process – for which they won the Nobel Prize – is a tool that microscopically breaks the human Genomic DNA chain and splices into it another sequence of genetic material. It is the “Genetic Scissors” that scientists use to propel biochemistry and molecular biology into realms of hope and prayers for the Earths’ illness-afflicted population.
Serbian Military and Civil authorities report that twenty-seven people – including world-renowned scientists and their support staff – were savagely tortured and butchered to death in what appears to be a rampage of unknown purpose. The key researchers were killed, and all their computer hard-drives were stolen – leading authorities to conclude that perhaps the goal was industrial espionage. Patents generated by NordPharma at this location are worth billions of dollars in direct and indirect licensing fees – and police are now focusing on theft of research data as a possible motivation for this heinous crime.
As of now, this NordPharma facility is off-limits to all news services and, aside from helicopter flyovers, no additional observation of the scene is permitted.

Re: Events at NordPharma – Preliminary Investigation Status Report
Twenty-seven employees of NordPharma were murdered and dismembered and/or disemboweled at the scene in Dobanovci. They were all part of an advanced scientific unit assigned to the CRISPR Genome Resequencing Unit.
All identities of these people are being withheld pending review of National Security considerations and their work Certifications under the Serbian State Secrets Act of 2017. In the meantime, these persons are assigned numbers based upon their status and/or managerial position at NordPharma and identified by initials only.
Their bodies – some reassembled from dismembered remains transported from the scene – are being held under tight security protocols at the Banjica Ministry of Defense Administrative Barracks in Belgrade. Only Scientific Directors remains are herein addressed. Technical Personnel appear to present same or similar attack patterns and abuse. All victims were apparently exsanguinated in the process of their torture. Some were dismembered and/or disemboweled while still alive and aware.
#001-MK: NordPharma Executive VP and Chief of CRISPR Genomic Facilities. Exsanguination was performed as victim was interrogated while strapped to a stainless hospital gurney. Arms and legs were systematically severed in sequence. Teeth were extracted prior to expiration. Heart cavity was exposed while heart was still beating. Disembowelment was completed while interrogation was being attempted.
#002-SS: NordPharma Scientific CRISPR Lab Manager. Overseer of daily Genomic Lab operations and experiment digital progress logs. Exsanguinated while restrained and conscious. Breasts and ovaries surgically removed without anesthetic and chest cavity opened while interrogation was being undertaken. Disembowelment was completed post-demise.
#003-FR: NordPharma Senior CRISPR Molecular Biologist. Overseer of DNA sequence cloning, gRNA design, Transfection and Editing Valuation of Ribozymes. Exsanguinated while restrained and conscious. Gelded while unanesthetized. Teeth removed and eyes blinded during questioning.
#004-BN: NordPharma Senior Genome Editing Technician. Exsanguinated while restrained and conscious. Hands surgically removed during interrogation. Kidney removed while conscious. Gelded while unanesthetized.
#005-JT: NordPharma Chief of Flow Cytometry – Operates and maintains data of Flow Cytometers sorting CRISPR–edited cells and performing phenotype analysis. Exsanguinated during questioning and while conscious. Disemboweled while conscious and fed his own entrails. Blinded with lab implements which were left in situ. Teeth removed.
#006-LL: NordPharma Director of Microscopy Imaging – in charge of all Confocal live cell imaging and high-resolution screening of CRISPR-edited cells. Teeth removed and blinded while conscious. Gelded – no indication of anesthetic. Left foot surgically removed. Ears internally pierced by lab implements left in situ. Head scalped of hair. Facial skin partially pulled back from skull.
#007-TY: NordPharma Director of Next Generation Genomic Sequencing – Specialist who validates CRISPR-edits across the Genome, targeting editing efficiency and validation. Exsanguinated while seated upright in a chair. Head was pulled back and the skin from neck upward was pulled up to the hairline, exposing facia and skull bones. Blinded while being interrogated – lab implements were left in situ. Teeth removed – probably before attackers degloved the skull of its flesh mask. Abdomen opened and stomach contents removed, apparently re-fed into the throat, apparently through a gaping incision in the neck.
#008-GW: NordPharma Director of Automation Robotics – Maintains liquid handler machinery for high-throughput gRNA screenings and enables large-scale CRISPR screenings and validations. Throat opened and breathing pathway blocked as a torture strategy. Eyes blinded by lab implements left in situ. Hair scalped. Funnel inserted into open throat to introduce caustic lab acid while still aware and conscious. Disemboweled while strapped to a chair. Exsanguinated post-torture.
#009-XB: NordPharma Director of Quality Control and CRISPR Validation Protocols – Documents and retests mycoplasma, clone screens and sequencing confirmations. Computerizes all PNA design tool data. Exsanguinated while suspended from his feet. Abdomen opened while conscious and entrails withdrawn as part of torture. Back opened and ribs peeled off while still alive. Viking Blood-Eagle of lung lobes left for visual impact post-demise. Subject seems to have been singled out for particularly obscene abuse.
Technical personnel were killed with varying degrees of mutilation – all showing signs of interrogation and exsanguination. Killings are not thought to be ritualistic or linked to any particular religious sect. Information and data appear to have been the driving motive force for this mass murder event. All computer hard drives, memory sticks, printed records of any and all experiments and projects being worked on at the facility for the past six months are missing. Internet Meta-Data is sparse because the NordPharma computer network is encrypted and structured in a closed loop with multiple layers of firewalls. We are continuing our investigative efforts to more accurately isolate the exact nature and extent of CRISPR experimentation that was being undertaken at this NordPharma facility recently.
A fragment of a report to the NordPharma Technical Systems Directorate in Zurich, Switzerland was found referencing a project called “ASTRA”. We have no further knowledge of this program, except that it appears to have been the pet project of a high-level Executive named Dr. Ilse Sonnerlund and required cutting-edge CRISPR recombinant DNA splicing technology, a science in which NordPharma leads the world. Interpol and Swiss law enforcement databases cannot locate Sonnerlund.
NordPharma executives in Basil deny any knowledge of a “Project ASTRA” and refuse any further investigative cooperation with our office citing “Proprietary Technical Secrets” that are confidential corporate property.

“Alright. I don’t know what you two are up to – but I just got told I’m gonna’ be wearin’ my ass for a hat if I don’t make you both available for a State Department jaunt to Switzerland tonight. Get your bags packed. You’ll get further details via text. Take all the time you need.
The only thing I want to say if this: Watch yourselves. Come back safe. You’re a couple of ballbusters – but you’re my ballbusters! Now get outta’ here…”
Heinlein and Leeds both look at each other and leave the room, saying nothing. They get as far as the office coffee machine when Heinlein’s Cell phone burbles a text message.
“The Master’s Helicopter leaves Paulus Hook rooftop at 10:00PM for Kennedy Airport. Midnight flight to Zurich. Dinner at 7:00PM. Boeuf Bourguignon and Bordeaux wine in quantity. Chef Lacas sends his regards. Brother Dimitrios”.
Leeds smiles from ear to ear.
